Again, Berthold Technologieshas presented the Marlene DeLuca Award to 2 young scientists at the 16th International Symposium on Bioluminescence and Chemiluminescence held in Lyon, France from April 19-23, 2010.
The Marlene DeLuca Prize was initiated by Dr. Fritz Berthold at the 5th Symposium held in 1988 in Florence, Italy, in memory and to the honour of Marlene DeLuca, who has pioneered the science of bioluminescence and chemiluminescence. One of her many contributions was being the first one to clone the firefly gene.
The Award is intended to encourage young researchers in their scientific work. The scientifically best contributions of all participants below the age of 35 years to the biennial meeting of the International Society of Bioluminescence and Chemiluminescence are selected by an international jury.
This year's winning contributions are:
1. Laura Mezanotte (University of Bologna, Italy): "Combining new secreted and intracellular luciferases for in vivo bioluminescence imaging"
2. Ken Yokawa (ICMB, University Bonn, Germany): "Cypridina luciferin analog, CLA as a probe for the enzymatic reaction of superoxide generation catalyzed by copper-binding hexapeptide found in chicken prion protein"
Congratulations to the winners and a successful scientific future!
