Measuring density of milk of lime in the classifier, pipelines or tanks

The quality of the milk of lime has to be monitored in several stages to achieve better purification results and an optimized process. The Berthold measurement system based on microwave technology helps sugar mills worldwide control the concentration of milk of lime by an online measurement - either in the pipeline or in process tanks such as classifiers.

Customer benefits

  • Online density measurement
  • Precise and representative real-time data for improved process control
  • Optimum purification results
  • Cost efficient use of lime stone

  • State-of-the-art microwave measurement
  • No maintenance required
  • Very accurate and repeatable measurement
  • Installation options for pipes and tanks

Fields of application

Milk of Lime (MOL) is a suspension of calcium hydroxide in water which is produced in the slaker. The mixture ratio of quick lime and water should be mainained in a range to achieve a MOL with a nominal dry substance of 42 %.
With a real time measurement, the process can be controlled and operated uninterrupted, without expensive downtime or delays. The LB 565 in combination with a container probe or FlowCell can be used in the slaker (or after the slaker) to control the quality of the MOL. This reliable and accurate equipment helps to monitor and control the amount of water or sweet juice required to produce high quality MOL - thus increasing process efficiency.
