Maintaining the achievements of the prior generations like true single photon counting detector, frictionless JET injectors and the sample turret the Lumat³ sets a new standard with the ICE user software.

Wizard guided protocol definition, intuitive operation and especially today´s expectations for data transfer and storage are achievements every user will benefit from.




True photon counting technology coupled with selected low noise photomultipliers and an optimised optical design is the only accepted way to achieve a low and stable background. This is a major parameter for high sensitivity in a luminescence measuring system enabling detection of extremely low amounts of analyte

ICE Software

The ICE software Research version supports ratio calculation for reporter gene applications, ADP and ATP determinations and kinetics functionality enzyme activities. Point-to-point curve fitting enables simple work with standard curves.
The ease of use during protocol creation, measurement and data export has been achieved with the wizard-driven and clearly structured software.

Unique Sample Loading – the Turret

The measurement chamber is designed to enable rotating sample transport. You can load a second sample while the first one is being measured, thus saving time which results in throughputs approaching those of an automatic instrument. The special design of measurement chamber provides superior light collection efficiency and contributes to the outstanding sensitivity.

Large Dynamic Range

The Lumat³ is able to count up to 25 Mio pulses per second equivalent to a dynamic range spanning 7 orders of magnitude. As no additional adjustments (such as gain and high voltage setting) are needed the Lumat³ offers convenience and security for every measurement over the entire life of the instrument.

Eppendorf Cups and Lumi Vials

In addition to all types of 12 mm Lumi vials the Lumat³ accepts Eppendorf tubes in 1 mL to 2 mL sizes.

Built-in Reagent Injectors

The instrument can be equipped according to needs with either no or 2 reagent injectors with variable volume in JET injection technology. You have the choice between a 100 µL and a 300 µL size injector. Superior accuracy and precision is combined with excellent mixing performance. Variable injections speeds and "friendly" material enable even injection of live cells (e.g. in Aequorin based GPCR screening).
The injector tips are located in reading position enabling the measurement of very fast labels, e.g. Acridinium esters, and to inject activators into a running kinetic.

Precision & Accuracy

Precise mechanics and the intrinsic stability of photon counting technology guarantee unrivalled repeatability of measurements. The instrument´s performance is stable over years. Time-consuming daily calibration is thus unnecessary and you can concentrate on other and more important duties.
Like all Berthold Technologies instruments the Lumat³ comes to your laboratory checked against a certified light source. With this reassurance you are able to work with accurate, traceable and comparable results.

ICE Software Upgrades

Advanced functionality can be added to the ICE software by upgrading to the Advanced version, e.g.

Lumi Vials

Polystyrene vials are available in various sizes. The 3 mL vials are gamma irradiated to provide sterile conditions for cell cultures or the use of primary cells.

Test Devices & QC Services

Cleanit Daily Injector Cleaning Solution

For proper maintenance of the injection system the Cleanit Daily solution is recommended for regular cleaning. Daily cleaning ensures that accuracy and precision as well as a long life time of the injectors will be maintained.
