MEASUREMENT TECHNOLOGY

Measuring mould level with Berthold!

Gamma radiation is attenuated as it passes through the mold. The higher the level of molten metal in the mold, the less radiation will reach the detector. In this manner, the mold level can be reliably monitored – irrespective of dust, temperature and vibrations. The radiometric measurement is maintenance-free and applicable for all mold types and sizes. In addition to installations on slab and billet casters, it is also applicable for beam-blank and round casters.

AOS - Activity Optimized Source

By optimizing the activity distribution in the rod sources for the mould level measurement, we significantly increase the accuracy in the upper part of the measuring range. This minimizes the statistical noise without increasing the overall activity of the source.
If you are content with your current accuracy, AOS can be used to reduce the source activity while maintaining the same accuracy. Depending on the application, this may allow for the use of a smaller shield. In many cases, the more cost-efficient lead shield may be used instead of tungsten.
