In contrast to conventional multimode devices, Mithras² uses a proprietary optical system with separate paths for the various technologies (mDOPS). mDOPS optics achieve the performance of dedicated single-technology devices. Because each technology has specific reuirements on the optics, only separate paths can ensure that high sensitivity and a large dynamic range are achieved.
The Mithras² LB 943 offers the best of two worlds with regards to wavelength selection: choose between monochromator and filters for the optimal performance in all applications. The two 3D double monochromators with high transmission and excellent blocking properties are the best option to choose when maximum flexibility in wavelength selection is the key requirement of your application. Simply select the filter option of the system whenever your assays benefit from the high transmission properties of filters (up to 25 times higher than that of monochromators), e.g. forand assays.
Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) is the most modern and secure way for filter coding. Each filter, contained in its holder, includes a programmed tag containing filter data such as, centre wavelength, bandwidth and transmission. Whenever the unit is switched on or a filter slide is moved the Mithras records the filters currently inserted and compares the inventory to the requirements of the selected measurement. This feature of the system provides you with an additional security level to avoid the selection of a wrong set of filters and the resulting loss of data.
If high-intensity samples are placed in wells adjacent to low-intensity ones, some light from the former could reach the detector when measuring the later. This phenomenon, called, can produce wrong results and, hence, wrong conclusions. The crosstalk reduction design of the Mithras² almost eliminates this problem: with a crosstalk of 5 x 10-6, you never have to worry about sample position. In addition, thanks to the possibility to add an additional ultralow-noise photomultiplier in photon counting mode in the special HiSens position, and more than 40 years of experience building luminometers, the Mithras² offers a higher sensitivity in luminescence than any other multimode reader in the market: less than 2 amol ATP/well (10 fM) can be reliably detected.
The monochromators of Berthold Technologies’ instruments are equipped with software-controlled continuous bandwidth variation to optimize the instrument for the specific demands of different assay requirements. In addition, Berthold Technologies’ double monochromators have the lowest amount of unwanted light (stray light) in the market: only 10-6.
The combination of both features makes any time-consuming z-scans obsolete and ensures the measurement is always perfect, independently of plate height or liquid volume.
The Mithras² can be equipped with up to 4 JET injectors with variable volumes in pre-measurement or measurement position. The ultra-fast injection speed of JET injectors eliminates any delay between injection and measurement and enables measurement of fast reactions, e.g. flash luminescence.
Berthold Technologies' JET injectors use Teflon bellows for accurate and fast injections and guarantee most efficient mixing as well as extreme longevity.
All operations such as plate loading, filter change and reagent connections can be performed from the front. Reagent vials can be stored in the front of the instrument, providing easy access and visibility. A removable trough can be filled with water or ice to keep reagents cooled. The lid is tinted and protects sensitive reagents from light. Different reagent tube holders are available to ensure secure handling of valuable reagents. Thanks to the built-in waste pump, excess liquid that is left over from washing and priming is automatically and safely disposed of in a special wash plate.
