In cement production, the heart of the system is the rotary kiln, and the corresponding cooling system that follows it. The efficient operation of these two systems together is critical in maintaining efficiency and profitability in the manufacturing process. With operating temperatures in excess of 1000°C, the measurement of important parameters, such as the level of clinker on the cooling grates, is fraught with problems. Traditional, intrusivesimply cannot last in such a harsh environment.
To optimize cost savings, the airflow must be regulated to the proper amount for the mass of the clinker present on the cooler grates. This requires an accurate level measurement of the clinker. Berthold's non-contacting and non-intrusive radiometric level measurement technology provides a means of making an accurate and reliable clinker level measurement while operating outside this extreme high temperature environment. The high degree of accuracy, stability and repeatability insures high production rates, optimal efficiencies and superior product quality.
Glass melt furnaces offer one of the most challenging environments for any type of industrial process measurement and control. Extreme process conditions, such as high temperatures and dense refractory material, require an extremely robust yet reliable and accurate level measurement. Especially an efficient and high quality glass production is in need of a reliable and safe glass level measurement just after the glass leaves the main feeder channel.
Radiometric based level measurement systems with the use of Co-60 isotope, proper alignment, and an effective calibration procedure offer best in class measurement results for the glass industry to maximize safety, reliability, and throughput.
Concrete as a high-tech building material is based on an optimal mixture of sand, aggregates, water and cement. The ratio of water and cement defines the final quality and stability/firmness of the concrete. In addition, the fluctuating moisture of sand must be taken into account, which makes a significant contribution to the overall water content. An online moisture measurement directly on water and the aggregates such as gravel can be used to regulate the water content in the concrete mixture and thus to ensure a constant high quality of the concrete. For conveyor belts the microwave moisture measurement system LB 567 has proven to deliver reliable and highly accurate results. To monitor the product moisture in silos the neutron moisture measurement system LB 350 is the ideal solution.
