Berthold Conflict Minerals Report 2025

Berthold Technologies GmbH & Co. KG procures a number of machined mechanical components made from tungsten alloys. These components are used for shielding against radioactive radiation. We are committed to sourcing mineral resources responsibly and sustainably in order to prevent risks identified in Annex II of the OECD Due Diligence Guidance, including the financing or support of violence, armed groups, and human rights violations.

To meet the requirements of EU Conflict Minerals Regulation (EU) 2017/821, Berthold has implemented appropriate due diligence measures. The regulation establishes supply chain due diligence obligations for importers of tungsten, tin, tantalum, and gold (3TG) into the European Union.

Berthold’s requirements and expectations regarding the responsible sourcing of 3TG minerals are communicated to suppliers through our Supplier Code of Conduct.

Suppliers are required to ensure that they do not supply products containing conflict minerals that directly or indirectly finance or benefit armed groups or contribute to human rights violations. Furthermore, we expect our suppliers to conduct due diligence on their mineral supply chains in accordance with the recommendations set out in the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas.

Our commitment to supporting and respecting human rights and business ethical practices, while addressing the risks associated with the extraction, trading, handling, and export of minerals from conflict-affected and high-risk areas, is publicly stated in our Code of Conduct.

Berthold’s Whistleblower Portal enables both internal and external stakeholders to report concerns regarding illegal or improper conduct anonymously. The portal operates worldwide under the responsibility of Berthold Technologies in Bad Wildbad and is accessible via www.berthold.com. Information about the Whistleblower Portal is communicated through our Supplier Code of Conduct and our Agreement on the Fulfilment of Due Diligence Obligations in the Supply Chain regarding conflict minerals.

To ensure compliance with the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation, Berthold has implemented a compliance verification process within its purchasing system. Imports of 3TG materials are processed only after successful completion of the required manual checks, including a positive Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) Downstream Assessment. If any discrepancies are identified, the corresponding purchase order is cancelled within the SAP system.

For all relevant EU imports of metals listed in Annex I of the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation during 2024, our suppliers were able to demonstrate that their smelters and refiners had been audited by independent third-party verification bodies. They also provided evidence of conformity with a supply chain due diligence scheme that complies with the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP) standard of the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI).
