A point source is a small cylindrical shaped capsule; significantly smaller than a table tennis ball. The capsule contains an inner, even smaller capsule, where the radioactive material is sealed. For an optimum protection we can also provide a 3-fold encapsulation, which is specifically recommended for very hostile measurement environments. Our point source capsules are approved according to the international safety standard ISO 2919, where even the highest classification 66646 is exceeded by far.
Additionally they are leak-tested according to ISO 9978 and DIN 25426.
These safety source capsules are made from the most resistant material: titanium or stainless steel, for the use in abrasive and high-temperature environments, withstanding up to 1200°C/60 min.
This rod shaped source forms a radiation field over the whole source length. Rod sources achieve the best measurement performance, ensuring highest levels of accuracy and reliability. The resulting measurement signal shows a better linearity, compared to point source applications, since the rod source is custom-build and specifically adapted to each individual measurement geometry.
Due to our unique manufacturing technology, the radioactive material is distributed continuously along the source, thereby modulating the intensity depending on how it is required for the irradiation of the specific measurement geometry. Typically the activity intensifies towards the lower part of the rod source because there, the distance to the detector increases and the walls have to irradiated at an angle. As a result, the signal at the detector is absolutely linear and completely independent of the measurement geometry.
Radiation sources used for radiometric measurements are sealed in an extremely tight and durable capsule. The quality of this capsule is an essential factor, as radiometric measuring systems often work in the most demanding and hostile process conditions. The safety source capsule SSC sets new standards in safety and reliability.
It contains several capsules mounted inside each other and is highly resistant to heat and corrosive atmospheres. Even under extreme measuring conditions SSC can be used without hesitation.
