FlowStar LB 513 Radio Flow Detector for HPLC

The ultimate radio flow detector

The FlowStar represents the latest improvements in an almost 50 years history of radio flow monitors used in liquid chromatography.

An optimised detector and electronics design for ultimate sensitivity has been combined with touch-screen technology for quick and easy operation.

In addition the FlowStar can be operated via the RadioStar radio HPLC software or via the HPLC system´s software.

High Sensitivity

Low noise photomultipliers operated with an optimized coincidence circuitry and luminescence subtraction provide the best sensitivity available.

Automatic Cell Detection

A chip in the flow cell´s mounting frame contains all necessary cell information and ensures the correct cell has been inserted for the measurement to be performed.

Isotope Library

The instrument relies on an extensive library with preset settings for the energy windows of e.g. 14C, 3H, 32P, 33P, 35S, 125I, 111In and 99mTc. The integrated multi-channel analyzer improves the detector setup for the isotopes.

Both, single and dual isotope labelled samples can be measured.

User Access Control

User access can be controlled by applying a security password to protect the instrument from unauthorized use and interfering with running measurements.

Liquid Scintillant Pump

The pump is separated from the detector eliminating any potential damages caused by leakages. The pump is entirely controlled by the radio detector or the PC software respectively.

The double piston design provides pulsation-free operation and a wide range of the flowrate between 0.001 and 10 mL per minute matches all applications and flow rates of the main HPLC system.

Static Mixer

Two cartridges with 50 and 150 µL volumes are availabel for efficient mixing of eluent and scintillant.


To preserve part of the eluate for futher investigations splitters direct only part of it to the scinillant mixer and detector

Waste Valve

As only part of the eluate is radioactive a waste valve can be applied to divert only the radioactive fraction into a specific container.


Besides controlling the detector the PC software offers sophisticated functions for radiochromatographic data evaluation

  • recording of 4 channels: 2 isotopic and 2 non-isotopic signals
  • integration of peaks
  • half-life correction
  • quench correction
  • report generation
  • export functionality, e.g ANDI format

The software is 21 CFR part 11 compliant.
