What DLReady™ certification means
The DLReady™ seal certifies that a luminometer is suitable for measuring the Dual-Luciferase® Reporter Assay System, one of the most widely used reporter gene assays in life science research. Reporter gene assays are a fundamental tool for studying the regulation of gene expression, a cellular mechanism involved in all physiological functions in both healthy and diseased states. For many research laboratories, DLReady™ certification is therefore a prerequisite when selecting a luminometer. Why reagent mixing decides the result
The Dual-Luciferase® assay owes its reliability to its internal control: firefly luciferase reports the gene of interest, while Renilla luciferase compensates for factors that could alter expression levels. This design only works if the luminometer's injector system mixes the reagents completely. Incomplete mixing inflates the internal control reading and distorts the ratio, which can lead to incorrect results. Both the Lumat and the Sirius 2 met Promega's strict requirements for complete mixing as well as its criteria for reproducibility.
